603 - Brief 02 - Process of Motion Flyers (2)

Second Poster Design:

For the next poster for Slump Sounds, I knew it would be more up-beat techno and break-beat. So wanted something a bit more energetic. So I decided to see how else I could make use of my previous pattern experiments in After Effects..

Experimenting with the diagonal linear trails I started putting together various type layouts which could fit within this square bounding space.
- Also masking for the main headings to reveal the pattern beneath.

- Experimented with a weirder, more technical / retro digital feeling typeface called Silom.

The zig-zag one pattern was interesting to experiment with as it did weirdly fit with sound and tempo of the rolling synths of the track - the ongoing and changing in pitch imitated by the speed and distance between the lines.

I sorted the placeholder text and started to properly organise the content. Introducing one of my more basic blackwork illustrations of an eye looking side-to-side.
- This gave the composition a nice moving balance, but after speaking with my peers and the DJs we decided a more bold and expressive typeface was necessary..
I tested out Sporting Grotesque - a typeface which is much bolder and charismatic.

Sporting Grotesque is a bulbous, serpentine, old-school Grotesque design released through the Velvetyne Type Foundry as an open-source font. It's wider and impactful form is much more appropriate for the grainy 90s big rave type inspired style I am going for with AV8.

I finalised this design ready for the event by softening the overall feel of the poster, by making the background a grey rather than the black. This allows for more of a contrast to be created by the grain and noise I always add to the flyer design to give it that consistent grainy aesthetic.

- digital and interactive through its sleek motion, yet still referencing that grimy, imperfection of the underground.

I also introduced various transitions in for each line of content - this is deliberately in time with the progressive beats from the music to give more impact, as the audience hang off every 4 beats awaiting the next pop-up of info.
- The decoder effect used on the 'AV8-003' perfectly imitates the rolling drums from the track, yet the others come in on a punchy bassline (Music: DJ Hyperactive - Wide Open (Len Faki DJ Edit))
