505 - 2 - Developing Illustrations

With my photographs taken, I was now able to work solidly on developing the illustrations. I started first by just creating a black and white outline.

From the last version of the kitchen scene, I introduced the second figure into the composition..

This effectively emphasised the concept of ignoring eachother on devices with headphones.

Next, I took the outline of the aerial view, duplicated it and created it into two people sat facing eachother at a table.

I introduced the grid on the floor to match the kitchen but also provide perspective to the piece.

I began to consider how I need to make one more feminine to replicate a couple,
And also how I can introduce items on the table such as a knife and fork, a menu, candle (can animate it flickering) and plates?

For the concert response I simply used each of the individual figures, altered them and then brought them together to make the crowd.
The next step was addressing the phone screens and also the stage!

I got involved in another feedback group to see if people could relate with the direction I was taking. We came up with the idea of representing the phone screens as bright white light - simplifies having to create content for each screen and also draws your attention directly to the technology in the composition (the animation will help this too).
This black and white outlined approach could even link with the Blackout idea - (turning all devices off to a black screen).
We also clarified how I should try and make the grid applicable to all of the illustrations, provides consistency and a kind of style/structure to the piece.

I added the grid to the floor, and then also started experimenting how the phone could fit into the piece - on the sofa?

More eye-catching and realistic on the floor (make it appear more flat)

I re-arranged the items on the bedside table for the bed scene, this allowed for space for his glasses, phone and books.

Although it was suggested to me how introducing a fan on the desk would be interesting and I would be able to experiment with the animation there nicely!

I trialled the extra objects on the table, including cutlery, a menu and a candle. After some experimentation I decided to strip back the candle as it was not sitting right and I didn't want to over-complicate the scene with unnecessary objects - the heart on the menu portrays how it is a nice meal out without the candle.

I finalised the stage with the DJ outline on stage, the phones again being the main focal point being so contrasted to the rest of the composition.

I even considered how these illustrations could be left the way they are to represent the campaign. Taking this idea to a crit group did make me realise how the line weights were not strong enough on there own, as from a distance it is barely visible.
We also agreed how experimenting with a colour scheme will allow me to add character and recognisability to the campaign making it more approachable and appropriate to the wider audience I am focusing on, not to mention it will provide added depth to the illustrations.
