OUGD406: Intro & Task

Secret 7
01 / 02 / 16

Our new brief involves designing a 7" record sleeve which will all be part of the competition 'Secret 7'. To introduce us to the style of work, using last years guidelines we had to choose one of the 7 artists and quickly produce a sample artwork sleeve. As we only had a couple of hours to produce a response the focus was really looking at the different ways we can approach the artwork when knowing minimal content on the musician/track.  For the main project I will obviously need to explore the visual semiotics of the track/artist from a more personal perspective, how to interpret the content, lyrics, genre, style etc in a visual sense.

I chose 'St. Vincent - Digital Witness' as the song and artist appear very minimal but with deep meanings around the digital world becoming too prominent in our lives, this shown through a repeated line in the song "Turn the Tv on, it looks like just a window"

My created responses to this idea...

My first responses were very image based, portraying ideas of the world being looked at through a screen, so for my last response I wouldn't to experiment with lyrics and type more...
