In order to achieve the perfect print I had to print numerous copies of the leaflet trialling and adjusting dimensions by the mm, as we went on to ensure no glitches in the alignment of both sides of the print. But afterwards, it is not only this which ensures accuracy, but the precision required when cutting out and trimming the print, and when folding the leaflet using the scorer and bone folder for crisp, sturdy edges...
Because of my added bleed on the InDesign document for trimming, it meant I decided I wanted the extra space A3 provided for this. It would print central on either side of the page as showed above, so I trimmed it down to size using the guillotine, before completing the more finer edges with a blade and ruler..
It took longer than expected to get the accurate print as the guidelines I had used on one of the print sides were slightly off-centre, making it incompatible with the other side. Due to the images being flipped this did cause me some confusion and I came out with prints (as shown beneath) were dimensions had shifted incorrectly...
I had to completely re-set up the guidelines to ensure both templates were central so they would print accurately back to back.
Once the final version was printed I had become familiar with how to score and then use a bone folder to get a clean edge. It involved considering how the main fold on the doors required a couple mm of guttering, to allow for the inner flap to fold down inside the leaflet without over-hanging or obstruction.
Here is the leaflet in action...
