OUGD406: Exhibition Branding - First Presentation Prep

Presentation Prep

It was now time to start bringing our ideas together ready for the first presentation we would do for the tutors. They did not have to be that developed but it needed to communicate our concept well and show what we are planning and where we aim to go with the identity design on a whole.
I took my designs back to my group and found they were much more keen on the first layout example and were happy to take that colour scheme into the first presentation. It is not necessarily a final decision we just wanted to see what reactions and then suggestions we would get from it to push us forward with the design process.

Looking at other peoples work at this stage our designs were not that consistent aesthetically but we could communicate this being down to us focusing on other deadlines first, so we just set the first aim as us all bringing together our different ideas for each aspect, which we could then develop together and meet all of it on common grounds.

The Presentation was set to be completely visual examples and mockups consisting of discussion of our Bankers Club concept and our inspiration from the styles of The Hong Kong Bankers Club. This developed onto my discussion of luxuriousness and the use of patterning and how I have experimented with this idea and then started to incorporating colour considerations. This was through developing our different palette options and how this can then be further applied into our restriction of type and colour when initially mocking up flyers and posters, etc so we can all attempt to work more consistently.
We discussed the location and the buildings unique qualities which could inspire us. At this point I was meant to be passing over to Katie who would talk about her design considerations for the invite but we found out that she would not actually be able to play as strong of a part in the group as we'd hoped due to personal reasons and her being out of uni. This left us a man down but we were able to come to an agreement involving her partnering up with me when she can be with us, in order to develop the invite designs into a finished product ensuring consistency with my flyer designs and the rest of the material we design.
Here are her current designs for the invites, inspired by cheque books:

Next Aneta could talk about the map she had been developing to aid the way-finding:

Then Harrison was set to discuss his first little mockups for the social media sites and also how he plans to use the sites to their full potential, setting up competitions and planning sample posts engaging the audience with the exhibition before it had even started:

To finish, Calum and Sophie would talk with regards to the map of the exhibition space we had sketched out, and show their initial sketches of how we could organise the space and what we can include in each area of the room and how we can use vinyl on the walls to give insights into the context of the exhibition:

We knew we had a long way to go for a finished proposal, but we could atleast gain pointers from the ideas and concept we have already built if we communicate in the right way..
