This module will involve developing a self-initiated body of work that reflects my own creative, professional and practical concerns within the field of contemporary design.
The design work produced during this module should build into a portfolio which demonstrates my ability to plan, research, produce and present a substantial, innovative and informed body of work that will in turn demonstrate my understanding of contemporary practice and where/how I can fit into the graphic design sector.
I will need to reflect a deep understanding of my own creative, social, cultural, ethical and/or commercial roles in relation to self determined areas of specialism or vocational interest.
PART 2 - PROJECT JOURNAL (in support of your design practice)
Your blog will be used to document the research, development (both practical and contextual) and management the Extended Practice module. This will include your statement of intent/position statement, ongoing evaluation and reflection of your progress, documentation of research (practical, theoretical and contextual) undertaken, and a summative evaluation of your project.
In addition to your blog you will be required to present evidence of time/project management in the form of a paper based project file or publication.
Brief:
An initial statement of intent/position statement will be produced which will clearly identify and articulate the following:
- Themes, subject matter and lines of enquiry.
- Research methodologies.
- Practical development (media, methods, productions skills).
- Contextual and theoretical references.
- Approaches to documentation/recording.

- Project management (including a clear time plan).
As a result of this you my body of work will split into two parts:
PART 1 - DESIGN PRACTICE
You are required to identify, negotiate and resolve a series of design briefs which are appropriate to your individual design practice. A range of briefs should be included in order for you to fulfil all learning outcomes and create a varied and individual body of work, you will be expected to include live, competition and self directed briefs that you have undertaken collaboratively and independently, which should allow you to demonstrate a high level of practical and conceptual design skills informed by a contextual and theoretical understanding. (see Summer task for further clarification)
You will be required to formalise briefs into the provided format using a brief template and present work as directed and/or appropriate professional conventions.
