Dan Rhatigan talks about type in an engaging, and very human way.
Earlier this year the Monotype type director worked with Grey London on Ryman Eco, described as “the world’s most beautiful sustainable font,” as it uses 33% less ink than the likes of Arial, Times New Roman, Georgia and Verdana.
The objective, according to Grey, was “to find the optimum balance between saving ink, legibility and aesthetics.”

Upon viewing the website which showcases the typeface, it is beautifully presented over a moving woodland scene (reflecting the sustainability of it) - then it prompts you to type the different letterforms which takes you to different poster responses by designers making use of that letterform. A visually and conceptually beautiful showcase.
His tattoos are all various shapes and letterforms he loves from specific typefaces.
- all being beautiful in form and even experimental to him.

Dan Rhatigan worked as a designer and typographer for 15 years in Boston and New York before moving to England in 2006 for graduate school at the University of Reading. After receiving his MA in Typeface Design, he joined Monotype in London to research and design non-Latin typeface families, concentrating on Indic scripts. Now as a Monotype Type Director, Dan concentrates on custom design projects and typeface use; he also works with other type designers on creating new families.

Being a type director at Monotype, Dan actually his own collection of his favourite typefaces available on the website.
And as a Skyfonts user (from Secret7 last year), our group has easy access to all of Monotypes free fonts available online
- this seems like a very appropriate restriction to add in for our group (trying to only use Monotype typefaces) being very relatable to the brief.
The typefaces in the 'Wild Card' collection all pack a punch when it comes to personality, but you don’t see them being used all over the place. That’s why these fonts can add that playful or unexpected touch to a special word or phrase.
Here are some of the most appropriate typefaces which could be adaptable to this tattoo styled typography..
