503 - Collab: Monotype - GD Examples 2

Lou Reed poster

In 1996 Stefan Sagmeister created a poster for Lou Reed. Although this work isn't directly representative of tattoos, its script style typography overlaid over Reed's face imitates a simple way of portraying type on skin and how it can adapt to the natural human anatomy.

Scarifying (also scarification modification) involves scratching, etching, burning / branding, or superficially cutting designs, pictures, or words into the skin as a permanent body modification.

Sagmeister did this within a campaign in 1999 to promote a lecture in Detroit. This poster is one of Sagmeister's most famous works because of its unusual concept and remains influential to this day.

Sailor Jerry's

This famous rum company use the tattoo style across their identity. This includes illustrations of pin up girls and ships, related to rum's original popularity among sailors.

Witchoria

Victoria Siemer, also known as Witchoria, is a graphic designer based in Brooklyn, NY. She works predominantly in the digital realm, creating surreal photo manipulations that reflect her penchant for ennui, existential crisis, and heartbreak.

A series of work featured the artists pushing type blocks into the skin to create these impressions on the skin and portray the deeper meaning behind what it conveys.

It is leaves an intriguing result for viewers and is an interesting approach to typography which could definitely be effectively applied to advertising.

Displays how in our photoshoot we can focus on and represent different areas of the body within the frame.
