503 - Papyrus Brief - Development
I started working back into an old project file, which contained a load of my vectorised pattern experiments that I've been building up over time for projects like this. I knew I wanted something reasonably intricate for the colourers to have to concentrate on, but something that still allowed them to be open with their colouring approach, giving them lots of different options dependant on their imagination.
I was very drawn to the repeated hexagon pattern due to how perfectly they fit within eachother. Because of the increasing in line-weight it was not appropriate for the stated 3px stated in the brief, but upon adjusting this and taking the colour out it did leave quite a trippy, but very satisfying arrangement - with varying space between the lines. It does draw back to this geometric repeat that I was initially aiming for, and can easily be adapted into new things by the colourer.
After long experimentation on Illustrator, I developed my first response to be critted. You can see how the geometric repeat pattern inter-locks the background, and successfully draws into the centre piece. This was my initial attempt for the sea-hut, but I do not feel like it demonstrates the 3-dimensional, more sophisticated response that I was going for, so I did immediately set myself the task of un-flattening the side of the hut, and to add some depth and realism.
I successfully completed this task and sorted the weird shape of the roof out! Now looking to the shoreline to develop this tranquil scene. Palm trees, the beach, birds, a mountain to fill the horizon?
