The context of my photo-book is really aiming to inform on how certain events and movements from Serbia's history really influenced their artistic development, focusing in particularly on the countries capital city, Belgrade, where I was able to explore for a few days. My stay clearly indicated to me how they are now in a slow evolving state, growing towards this Western stylised society that is glorified so much in the media and their entertainment industries, etc. However, industries such as Graphic Design have also been given the chance to begin growing and this is what is reflected through my images - presenting the contrasting signage on shopfronts and other sources of type within the city centre.
I understand how this context directly effects who will be contextually attracted to this photo-book, but the visual design to match will be rather high-end coffee-table styled and very attractive upon first encounters, still completely justified and influenced by that same Serbian context however. Not just the seasoned travellers, struck with an interest of Eastern European countries will find interest in what my book will have to offer, as its historical information will provide viewing designers and appreciators with valuable contextual knowledge of their practice - expanding mindsets across to other cultures and where there could actually be a lot of work and development arising in the future.
So this creates a larger target audience pool that my book can apply to, ranging from designers and appreciators aged 18 onwards, including students and travellers. Thus tying to the price point of the publication and raising the question 'can they afford this kind of book?' Is a £20 price tag justified by the production costs of top quality stock, complex hand-stitched binding techniques, embossed and foiled detailing and the protective hardback cover; then in partnership with a small print batch to heighten a feeling of exclusivity and rarity? Myself being a design student and avid traveller would definitely justify buying something of this style if it promises quality and knowledge.
