504 - Type in Context - Study Task 01 Presentation

To start developing my concept ideas and to introduce my pictures to my peers, I put together this presentation, with the aim to gain possible feedback on key considerations such as context and target audience. The pictures I've included are narrowed down and all varied to give my peers a broad view of my time in Serbia.

To begin my presentation, I wanted to provide some context to my travels. Discuss the initial ideas I had which I mentioned in the blogpost before regarding whether I should take the photographs across Europe or if I should just narrow it down to a specific place.

Upon arriving in Belgrade, it felt initially very beautiful but it was clear how Serbia's small and unstable economy reflected the city-scapes. Mixing run-down, undeveloped architecture with breathtaking street art. As I progressed into the commercial centre I could see how some large corporations had started to invest into the odd hotel or shopping building, which felt much more modern and aesthetically in-date with the more developed countries we had previously visited in Europe.

At this point, I was taking my pictures with the idea in mind that I would be celebrating and comparing these typefaces being used and abused in this capital city centre, to that of back home or noticed in previously visited cities..

In the presentation slides I supported the images with my typographical analysis of the context, style and effectiveness of the typeface. With the images varying to stress the different signage Belgrade's centre had to offer.
