I began loading the images into Photoshop and enhancing them ready to start experimentation. I manipulated hue and saturation and used various overlays and mirroring techniques to produce patterns..
I took these designs to a crit session to see how I could push them further and people were keen to see me start introducing some type perhaps (like in my glitch experiments) and also the introduction of more geometric techniques. They were very keen on the surrealist example I provided so wanted to see me push this idea more into my work..
I attempted putting textures onto a 3D orb and then producing a surrealist composition..
I then starting looking into how I could start incorporating some type when I came across a complimentary typekit provided off Monoprint as part of the competition! This was perfect to give me some nice new typefaces to trial out!
I wanted to be very discrete with the type I used so trialled positioning I's for Imagine around the corners of my psychedelic patterns and then looked how I would make it contrast with the colourings..
I came across this image which makes use of a linear concept, I love how the letterform is created through the reversed direction of the lines whilst still fitting together perfectly! It took me ages to even realise there was a letter in there, its like a maze!
I had to try and create my own version with an I!
Similar to the image above I wanted to use this as a mask and try and combine this with the psychedelic patterning..
Some of them worked well but it was all done to the background and how the lines would contrast against this.. I got a very mixed response. I even attempted reversing the patterning to create just a letterform out of the lines but it did not look very effective..
