Off the back of the Qoin examples in Amsterdam and Bristol, I am trying to develop the concept of a student currency based in Leeds.
I could divide the currency for use within different sectors e.g. clothes/retail, stationery, social like eating out, nightlife, cinema, etc. But for this brief, I can only produce a maximum of 2 notes, so I will have to think about how I can combine them.

I started to think about being a uni student, there is always that constant chore of trying to balance WORK and PLAY. Be it through time management, or even through saving money for work/living expenses and then wanting to have money left over for these important social aspects as well.
What if I created a currency which supported this? You could earn it off the council for community based activities (like in Dam) or even trade part of your student loan for them (similar to Bristol). I could also boost the idea of earning them through uni - by helping out at events, open days or by being a student helper (rather than earning cash).
Within the uni & council reward schemes you can only earn
'Work Money' - so either through the community helper induced activities or through reward schemes on your course (e.g. getting above a certain percentage on a module of work).
'Work Money' can only be spent on things which would come under your inevitable living expenses - e.g. weekly food&supplies shop (but only at the independent suppliers, e.g. in stalls in the Leeds Market).
The other type of money would be 'Play Money' - this can only be traded for a specific amount of 'work money', but it will be worth twice as much (thus encouraging us to do the work to earn the play money).
'Play Money' can also only be spent with any local/chain business who are registered, to ensure the money stays in Leeds. But it could be used at the cinema, in retail shops, restaurants, bars and clubs.
The currency can only be used within the Leeds area, boosting the use of local/independent suppliers and keeping cash in our local economy, whilst also providing students the chance to earn more for their work and then even more for their play.
