This first small crit session was so we could discuss our content ideas with Level 5 students and gain some useful pointers for our editorials. I told peers about the DJ I aim to present on and his ideologies lying within the environment, the dance music industry and drugs, etc. Everyone agreed it provided good potential with attracting 18-late 20s readers. As I specified the mag would be aimed towards music enthusiasts such as myself it was suggested that maybe I was limiting myself to a smaller niche market. This was what pushed me to consider these more popular, simplistic lifestyle mags as the content I was including could stretch that far and I could replicate something of this aesthetically pleasing style. As the mag will be printed at the college I aim to be able to leave copies around the college and uni, and as it is a very student based city I am able to attract a larger target audience of students who are interested in the dance music industry and the pressing matters around it.
I started to think about the content and its routes within Djing and music and how this could influence the design of my publication. I then brought stock and size into consideration and thought about how I can make the association with vinyl records and how my publication could be a twelve inch record publication or even seven inch. It also opened my eyes to how I could experiment with the use of an transparent acetate film over the cover perhaps, which would feature the titles, etc on their. And also considerations of extra different sized and stocked booklets within the mag (like lookbooks or guides, etc).
This was a helpful feedback session as it helped my idea generation even more, but brought more context into my ideas.
