Now I had the photos ready I wanted to start looking at specific poster layouts which I may want to use as inspiration when designing...
I do not know how I would make use of a style such as this in my brief however it is a very inspiring example if appropriate. I was more focusing on how the layout involves the bottom of the poster being divided up into sections of type (like a grid) and feel I could be inspired by this method of separating information at the bottom of the poster (especially if it is A3 sized). I can also be inspired by the strict colour scheme it makes use of, as the use of a certain restricted number of colours is something I like to experiment with to better enhance the mood and message I am trying to communicate.
I am inspired by the use of a physical grid here to separate up type again. I love the use of information in the margins of the poster, reflecting editorial qualities aswell.
A much more minimal approach which appears much more clear and easy to follow (which is probably best for starting students). Very clean and consistent sans serif typography (reflecting the modern style of design for the new students) and also makes use of justified type alignment making the words express their meanings in a very different way. Love the idea of having a main base colour for the poster however and then having the design inside and around this.
Lastly, I found this example which actually reads 'Things we have Learned" and features a cut-out head in the centre. I am inspired by how the type is positioned over the face so this is something I will experiment with and again a strict colour scheme is used, however I must use much more playful and eye catching schemes for this series of posters. The idea of having the subject for each of the other posters coming off his head on the intro poster could be a possibility. It really does act as an introductory poster then providing context as to what the other ones will address.
