603 - Brief 06 - Ferguson Identity Intro

At the beginning of last year I produced a very quick, make-shift logotype for close friend and DJ, 'Ferguson'. He approached me again this year to give his identity a proper looking this time - with various outputs required, ready for his debut album at the end of summer.

With the underground dance music industry being very digitally reliant nowadays in terms of the production going into the songs, the engineering now going into club nights and not to mention the digital promotion opportunities through social media; a key defining guideline of this re-brand project is to ensure the content created for Ferguson is going to be as engaging and interactive as possible, yet deliberately adapting his identity and evolving his online presence, driving him to be more successful and impactful through this digital and social realm of communication. As in order for a DJ's identity to evolve and grow, it is essential to have this online platform to make a name for yourself and effectively build your networking circle with promoters and various events companies through your hard-hitting and professional identity.

- You want your identity to reflect your practise and style, yet show you are serious and professional.

We sat down and wrote up the brief officially, to clarify what it is we are trying to specifically achieve through this project:

Brief name : DJ Ferguson’s Digital Identity

Time scale : 1-2 weeks

Brief : Create hard-hitting visuals and brand identity for up and coming DJ and Producer ‘Ferguson’. Reflect his underground and grungy music genre through the visuals produced, whilst at the same time offering clean and interactive content which can better drive him into the digital and social realm.

Background : Ferguson is a Leeds-local hardly lacking any of the Yorkshireman pride. How can his loud and brash personality as well as his musical genre be best represented through various visuals ideal for boosting his online presence? How can the approaches and identities of other famous artists / DJs be considered to ensure professional and impactful outputs to compete with the rest of the industry? How could his personal traits and other hobbies/practises be reflected through the identity - referencing deeper meanings and justifications?

Target audience :
Dance Music Enthusiasts, especially more specific to the UK Bass scene (17-25) - Lengoland and Bass Collective facebook group members.

Mandatory requirements : An impactful identity which will fit into and compete with the rest of the industry, whilst focusing on driving him into the digital social media realm.
