505 - 1 - Stylistic Inspirations

Started looking online for various inspiration and experimenting with how I can approach my poster response in a traditional way..

Cut out approach - layering shaped paper to create the composition.

Experimented with how this idea of cutting out paper and layering up objects/other coloured paper behind can easily be adapted to type - still a traditional method?

Simply can cut holes in paper and overlay objects petruding out - the Headrow 'H' with the iconic green plants (consistent with cocktail bar and other identity)...

Looking at how I can combine image with strong type in an experimental way.

How I can approach it in terms of my developing practise with vectorised illustrations. I do want to experiment with something abit different with this brief, but it was definitely a possibility approaching it in this way - drawing the interior of Headrow in a perspective conscious way (develops on from the outline illustration of the exterior of the building from the flyer in the previous post)- Can work more similarly to the works of Tom Haugomat, but feels less sophisticated and more animated.

Can consider how I can combine the text with image, with a desaturated approach and putting it into two-tone to be experimented as a bitmap for screenprinting? - look into how this works.
- It effectively creates depth to poster by layering up different blocks of colour with desaturated images and contrasting type..
- Feels more post-modern and experimental however in relation to Headrows already established minimal stylistic approach.
- Also displaying more interesting way I could approach the type-setting.

- More a simplistic approach, allowing the image based content of the poster to be the main focal point (could consider representing the lightbox art as the background) then partner a contrasting box from text, making use of experimental type setting?

Could incorporate the iconic plants they feature so much.. Keep it current and trendy with the top interior styles of 2017.

- clever overlaid clipping masked text, still feels very minimal and enhances negative space.

Or I could be completely different and approach it putting its history at the forefront.
Focus on hand rendered signage reflecting the old cotton mill:

More western inspired, blackboard and chalk approach - focusing on what was specified in the reviews.. good range of drinks, etc:

Could develop this into a typographical response which features nice words from locals about the event space, this naturally could veer towards a more free illustration style perhaps?:
