I had a peer feedback session with Courtney allowing us both to discuss our ideas with one another, developing potential concepts and planning what needs to be researched further.
I was able to hone in on some of my strongest ideas but I do feel like I need another crit session and a tutorial to help me to push just one of the 2 routes ..
Headrow House
1. Develop it into a mini triptych/exhibition celebrating the space's history
- the old mill/penny arcade, big lils saloon bar, neglect, current.

- the old mill/penny arcade, big lils saloon bar, neglect, current.
- portray the style of the period - present posters being more vectorised? - but it still needs to be a traditional method.
- reflect the more traditional processes at the mill - signage/letterpress.
- the same content and structure to each poster, just adapt the style each time to represent the time period?
- old mill - letterpress?
- saloon - more western?
- neglect - decay / cracked type / letraset
- present day - more modern
2. Celebrate its heritage as a top Leeds spot and how it has developed away from the negative, and now into an amazing multi-event art space..
- Posters celebrate its best features now - Ox Club Restaraunt, The Beer Hall, Redondo Beach and The Roof Terrace
- traditional style of posters reflect its heritage (screenprint + letterpress?)
- be inspired from the current too - Alphabet's lightbox vectors - black and red linear grid styles & more modern, vectorised illustration style that I love overlaid?
But does this satisfy the brief as it needs to be celebrating an actual event???
- it is an event space and many have been held there since its opening in Oct 2015.
- They didn't over-hype their 1st Birthday but did have a joint event with Belgrave:
- Email/go in and ask about what knowledge they have its past.. and if they'd be interested in a poster series celebrating the Headrow House space.
- Should I propose my posters as a celebratory series for their 2nd Birthday in October?
- OR ?

Festival of Britain
- 50s design - how Britain was then, how it developed and changed after the war
- 50s design - how Britain was then, how it developed and changed after the war
- the youtube clip - inspired by film burns and old film style / retro-modern colour palette
- 4 posters fitting together? - one for each point the exhibitions were held
- maybe slant it towards a current version of 'FoB' - 2017 version
(if was to happen again and focus on how far we have come since then - most famous works to come out of Britain since?)
Key themes to focus on
- Pride and Patriotism in Britain after the war
- The huge exhibition was split into different sections: Discovery and Design, People at Home, People at Play, People at Work, People at Travel
- maybe break it down into those sectors.
- more specifically look at how illustration style has advanced?
represent it through the modern style I love so much now - traditionally screen-printing them in conjunction with letterpress.
Which presents my strongest route?
- Headrow can have more social benefits of integrating myself into the city and communicating with the local creatives.
- I do need to be more specific with how I approach it as a 'Public Space' and as a specific 'event' - maybe focus on its launch, how this influenced the style and overall class/upkeep of the area in Leeds - fits this creative city as appose to its notorious predecessor
