I will be focusing on representing the Old American style of tattooing which is still very popular today, but originated from past traditional sailors who collected travel marks from their journeys away from home.
This is reflected very well by the Sailor Jerry's style and these illustrations are what inspired me to focus on 3 main icons which still are popular tattoos.
- Ship design
- Sailor Pin-up girl inspired design

These will all feature the same strict block colour scheme which tattoos back then were quite limited too (with some shading) and I began developing my own version of the popular tattoo type style which came with that too.
From my initial sketches, I moved onto Illustrator to begin creating this vectorised/modern versions of each.
I kept the colours consistent through all 3, introducing the creamy colour and brown to help enhance the shadings, aswell as accents of yellow and orange to provide some depth against the red.
My next step was to approach how I was to animate these individual illustrations.
I knew I wanted them just as simple little looped gifs, which would sit on the skin as normal but appear very effective, with the simple movements to aid the storytelling concept intended - similar to that of the Kenco and Unicef adverts.
