504 - Design for Screen - Different concepts to solve the problem

I started to think about the different approaches I discussed which could solve my problem most efficiently and effectively..
"The city centre of Leeds is congested with vehicles and it doesn't provide an easy and efficient method of accurate travel. With more specific regards to pedestrian safety, pollution and the promotion of a healthy active lifestyle develop a transport comparison app - which can compare the speed of the different route options, the price and its environmental impact across the city

I thought about how the target audience for this app would be for students who struggle with punctuality and are always late; also considering for them the cheapest way with reference to the environmental impacts of their chosen route boosting awareness and encouraging Leeds to become a greener, healthier city!

I downloaded a similar app already on the market which demonstrates most of these features, it is called 'CityMapper'..

It enables you to save your home, work and other important places for quick route finders

Calculates calories from walking & cycling
Including the duration of the trip, and prices of options like taxi, train, underground, bus, etc

You can access live timetables, disruptions and traffic reports, however it does not apply this this data to your impact on the environment - could be done by working out average petrol consumption/gas output from using personal taxis as oppose to public bus routes, etc.

This is a really efficient idea of how to aid transport, congestion in the city, reduce the environmental impacts thus promote a healthier lifestyle but I feel like all of these features could be combined and applied within my public bike scheme idea - can take inspiration from the layout and user experience of the app and also the route planner feature; and can also apply the other methods of transport as offered alternatives if all bikes are in use at drop off points.
I drew up some very brief wireframes to take to the crit with me for this separate concept idea, but I mainly want to propose in the session how I have developed this idea through research and feel it can be well combined to further develop this main concept to solving my problem within Leeds.

So I began roughly sketching out my ideas and possible routes for the bike scheme, with regards to my developed BRIEF TEMPLATE:

The Problem/Brief

The city centre of Leeds is congested with vehicles and it doesn't provide an easy and efficient method of accurate travel. With more specific regards to pedestrian safety, pollution and the promotion of a healthy active lifestyle develop a concept for the introduction of a public bike scheme, which is introduced via a purely on-screen approach including a partnering app to aid the experience overall.

Objective/Aims
Encourage the use of this public service through not just communicating its health and environmental advantages, but also through the whole ease of the experience provided by the app & interface. Considering both the UI and UX, the app should offer an array of useful features, all in one place, complimenting the concept whilst still being suitable for locals aswell as visitors.
When designing consider apps whom have the similar features that need including, and look at how I can develop and apply my own version all into one application which runs smoothly in conjunction with eachother for the user.

Target Audience
Mainly aimed at students/locals living within the city centre (as far out as Hyde Park and Headingley) looking to quickly and cheaply move around via an on-screen process which efficiently gives you options to select your most appropriately planned route. For example, arriving at a a lecture on time or it can be as simple as meeting your friend at the shops. But in the same respect it needs to be adaptable and easily understandable for a newcomer who wishes to explore the scenery safely and stress free.

Deliverables
An app interface mockup
- Any other mockups/ads to support
- Studio Practice Blog
- Design Boards

What I want to develop (Skeleton of my project)..

A named Brand Identity to represent the scheme
- logo? type? colour scheme? with regards to audience & tone of voice (animated?)

The interface which will be at the Bike Point (mockup)
- Introduction to service and instructions, with encouragement of app use in partnership
- Prices explained then purchasing stages
- Live map showing location/address of every other point for drop-offs in the city

The App (mockup)
- Introduction to service and instructions
- Prices explained with online purchase option (can pre-buy/earn the bike unlock code)
- Live map with drop off points
- Route planner
- Leeds tours
- Safety information

Digital Advertisements for social media and at Bike Points

- Video Ad?
- Complimenting GIF banners & posters

I began sketching out initial ideas of how I could approach the Brand Identity for my bike scheme in Leeds. It will need to be current, quite a timeless design style whilst still reflecting this modern, vectorised feel that comes with the very student orientated and design aware city of Leeds.

I gathered some ideas for the name of the scheme, wanting to really represent the pride and tongue and cheek in Yorkshire, my favourite so far is... "On Yer Bike! Leeds"

I played with ideas of a symbol logo sitting within the obvious bike cogs, or tyre - pushing concepts of how this could spin on loading screens of the app, etc.

I started sketching out my ideas to help visualise how I'm thinking the logotype could work, especially in relation to the motion effect and animations I want to represent.

I'm aiming for this italic, feeling of movement, representing the fast paced, efficient scheme where you can easily rent a bike for a short space of time and whizz across the city with efficiency across all aspects - the route planner and other useful features on the app.

I communicated how I want to experiment with the bicycle animation in partnership with the logotype.

Taking inspiration from apps like Uber and Google Maps, and also the offered features from Santander cycles I began developing how the wireframes for my app could work, trying to list every feature that I want to include at this point.

I will take these rough copies to the crit for some feedback and pointers to aid my direction but my next step is to begin properly researching various successful transport apps, etc.
