OUGD406: Speaking From Experience - Idea Discussion

Idea Discussion

I started to think deeper into how I could develop an idea into a solid response that would help freshers, whilst taking a humorous/witty approach with the tone of voice and communication techniques. As humour does comfort people and make them feel more at ease and as graphics in general can be very tongue and cheek, I feel it is the correct approach to take, especially considering the average age of freshers that I know is 18-22 typically.

I really liked some of the guide book ideas I had, however I want to take a different approach with this brief and try something new as I have already designed 3 publication/editorials this year! Poster design is what first initially drew me to Graphic Design and upon starting the course I feel like I was looking around the room a lot for inspiration and out of awkwardness, so having a series of top tip survival guide posters around the room would have a big impact on freshers in their initial couple of weeks. Making them aware of things that will not usually become clear until you've been on the course for a while.

I want to represent a clean, modern and easily communicated line of posters all varying slightly with their context. Some research into poster designs got me looking at very vectorised, playful poster examples..

...but then I came across a design communicating womens rights, but it gave me an idea..

What if I took a similar approach with having members of our class' faces on the posters, portraying an upset/angry emotion but then have a funny quote alongside this taking the mick out of how they have messed something up or missed a deadline and it all revolves back to this message of "Learn from our Mistakes!". And then give various tips on how to avoid these things happening.
