OUGD404 - Studio Brief 01 - How Do You Read?

404: Studio Brief 01 - Intro

Throughout the module taught sessions and study tasks I have been introduced to a range of fundamental design principles, that are applied into editorial design, which include the consideration of things like colour theory, colour relativity, figure and ground, grids, canons, typesetting, folding and bookbinding techniques. These principles I have learnt will influence how I go forward with my design in a more detailed manor and help me focus on specifics when designing.
The brief involves me producing a small publication (booklet, leaflet, etc.) that collates the material I have learnt, but I have the option to focus the content into one of the learnt principles in more detail.

Having most enjoyed the intelligence and wit behind designs which consider figure and ground, I have decided I will focus my small publication on this principle in particular and provide an introduction to the concept aimed at first year/learning Graphic Designers. After reading my small publication they should have developed an understanding of the principles within design and how it influences our modern practise.
