OUGD404 - Study Task 3 - Grids

Grids
3 / 11 / 15

After receiving a presentation on the use of grids and typography in newspapers, we were asked to work in pairs to locate the grids used for newspaper layouts.
After drawing grids over the pages I realised how the structure of the page was consistent to the surrounding pages and articles, they all used a grid with 4-5 columns. These columns varied slightly page to page but this is in relation to the placement of images and ads, to ensure each page didn't look exactly the same but followed a similar trend. They were relatively thin and are used to break up and confine the large paragraphs of information. If the paragraphs covered all 4-5 margins without being broken up it would make the article unappealing and difficult to read. It would also make the placement of images more difficult as there would be no specific layout to keep consistent alignments.
This will all be relevant information for when we start designing our editorial publications in OUGD404.
